Corporate parenting

As a corporate parent of children looked after (CLA) the Council has a statutory and special responsibility for their wellbeing.

Like any good parent the Council should put the needs of its own children first. That means being a powerful advocate for them to ensure that their needs are met in the best way possible and prioritising access to its resources.

Elected members, senior managers, staff and volunteers working with children looked after in the Borough are expected to make the following commitments:

(a) We recognise that children in care are some of the most vulnerable children in our community and need additional help to achieve good outcomes;

(b) We aim for each and every child looked after by Wandsworth, wherever they live, to be helped to achieve her/his potential;

(c) We expect everyone working with children, in every agency and every part of our services, to expect the best and go the extra mile to safeguard a child in care or care leaver; and

(d) We will work together to achieve the best outcomes for the children and young people who are in Wandsworth's care and care leavers.
