Supporting pupils and families affected by parental and sibling imprisonment

Corona Kids CIC have launched a pilot service to support Wandsworth children and families affected by parental or sibling imprisonment.

Children with a parent in prison are three times more likely to experience poor mental health and boys with a father in prison are twice as likely to become offenders themselves.

About the service

Wandsworth CAPSI (Children Affected by Parental or Sibling Imprisonment) is a six-month community based pilot providing emotional and practical support around the impact of family member imprisonment to 10 families (estimated 20 children) with children 18 or under (under 25 with disability) living in Wandsworth with a parent or sibling at one of the following stages in the Criminal Justice system:

  • Pre-sentence
  • Serving sentence
  • Pre-release
  • Up to three-months post release

Following an assessment families may receive:

  • Up to three 1:1 sessions for child/young person with prisoner family practitioner (School or home based)
  • Up to six parenting support contacts - One school consultation
  • Provision of tools, resources, signposting to other sources of support

How to make a referral

Wandsworth CAPSI service are now accepting referrals from Wandsworth Children's Social Care, Wandsworth Voluntary sector, schools, educational settings and health.
